Continuation of the diary:
23. September 2007:
Some change in character is to be seen, right!? The photos were
taken respectively the day after I bought it the 22/6 '6 and the 15/5 ´7

I think
it's about time I post some before/after photos. The conscious
reader has already noticed that there is something I have forgotten to
mention: The
3½ decals I had were of no use. Originally, I wanted to get
some new ones, but they are a bit hard to find. I also wanted
"Sport" stickers for the rear, so I simply had both of them made as
stickers. In time I'll change the "3½" with some original decals if I
can find a pair.
Again I was helped through
ital-web.de. Sebastian Neugebauer,
the son of Andreas who gave me the diagram for the voltage regulator,
made them for me.
That's not the only thing I've forgotten to mention. Finally, I've made
a bracket for the steering damper and I have to say, those who find it
superfluous simply haven't ridden the Morini like it should be: At high
speed straights or turns with bad pavement it's a lot more stable and
you have a lot more control over the nimble 3½.
Another thing that has given a brand new feeling: I have bought steel
armoured brake hoses, so now the feeling of squishing a squash ball
when braking is completely gone. The feeling is 100% better and now it
STOPS!
Incidentally, I found an old list of all the changes I've made. There
are things on that that I actually had forgotten. For instance there
were two brackets at the upper schocks that I cut and I simply can't
remember how they looked! - I must be getting old or there has just
been a lot to do! Of course there has also been some spare
parts changes: wheel bearings, fork seals, timing belt, seals in the
left side engine housing; in carburetors: sealings, needles; fuel hoses,
and air filters.
Most of the parts Gunar Keindorf found for me - a very nice guy I know
through ital-web.
Clutch cable is also changed to a Venhill Featherlight - nice stuff!
Oh, three things I also have to mention:
1 - I had to shorten one outer throttle cable. It was too long, so the
slide wasn't closing properly. I've heard about several who have had
this problem, so see to that this is in order!
2 - I've had my fuel cap chromed (used to be black).
Croma
in
Glostrup made it. Very nice work. They have specialized in small tasks
like this.
3 - The fork tubes had the usual pitting. I should have changed them,
but somewhere I had to save a little money. Instead I filled the
"holes" with chemical metal and polished them afterwards - Maybe not
the perfect solution, but the problem wasn't that bad and at least now
the seals wont be torn by the holes.
I think I have described all now, but don't get surprised if something
pops up anyway. When I look at what was necessary to change it's
actually only parts that naturally get worn. Which says a lot about the
build quality of the Morinis.
Now I'll stop - next entry will be about the future changes. It's in no
way finished, but that I'm sure is obvious by now! ;o)
